Memory leak on streaming media

IE 6 appears to suffer a significant memory leak as a result of playing
streaming audio or video. I have observed the same problem on two different
PCs, both running WinXP Home SP2.

The first PC is three years old and could in theory have been corrupted by
loading an application. However the second PC is a brand new preinstalled
WinXP SP2.

The audio fault is simplest to replicate - I listen to RadioLive 365 and the
memory just leaks away and the CPU usage goes almost to 100%. The video
problem is similar so perhaps the problem lies within IE interface to
DirectSound ??

Killing the IE task with TaskManager causes the memory to be released and
CPU usage to revert to sensible levels.

It's probably not IE that's causing your issue with playing streaming media
at the site you mention, but the player you are using. Have you set it to
use their "Player365", Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, or something else?

Try another player - go here:
http://www.live365.com/help/listen/windows/index.html, click on one of the
"Listen settings" link and choose some other player than what you are using
now.

If you are using WMP 9, then there's this issue:

FIX: A constant rate of many script commands may cause Windows Media Player
to use maximum CPU

I'm using their little Player365 and it's not causing any issues on my WinXP
SP-2 system.

Thanks Jon, but your solution does not alter the cause of the problem. I
managed to duplicate the problem using videos downloaded from the Microsoft
website.
