Hi I have 1Gb of Ram, when I look in System Info it tells
me I have a total of 512 Mb of physical memory, and
797.10 Mb of available physical memory. Is my Sys using
all it should ?
Thanks JC

Right-click on My Computer and select Properties.
Or use Control Panel - System which is the same thing.
(You can also get there by using WindowsKey+Pause/Break)

What does that window show for total RAM?

If it shows 1 gb then all is well. What you have is a known cosmetic
issue whereby the System Information utility will sometimes report the
wrong RAM total when there are multiple RAM modules installed in the
computer.

However if the System Properties window also reports only 512 mb of
RAM then there is an issue.

First thing to do in that case is Start - Run - MSCONFIG. Go to the
BOOT.INI tab and click on the Advanced Options button. Make sure
that the checkbox for the /MAXMEM= line is clear and that there is no
value in the parameter box for that line. If the checkbox is selected
and the parameter box has an entry of 512 mb then that is the cause of
your problem. Change the parameter box to read 1024 mb and then click
on the checkbox to clear it. Reboot the computer and the problem
should be resolved.

And if the /MAXMEM= entry was not set then that indicates a physical
hardware problem such as:
1. Your motherboard does not support the size of RAM modules that you
have used (e.g. using two 512 mb modules on a motherboard that only
supports 256 mb modules max).
2. One of your modules is not properly installed or is defective.

Good luck

System Info has a bug in this area. For a quick check, look in Control
Panel - System, bottom of the front page. Or get the free Aida 32,
enterprise edition from
http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32
which is an excellent general System Info tool, which will tell you just
about anything you need know
