Memory errors after uninstalling beta 2

I have recently uninstalled Defender beta 2 after I used it to help remove
the downloader-acg trojan which McAfee failed to fix. I removed it because I
believed it not to be a good idea to have multiple security applications
running.

Since uninstalling Defender I have been plagued by repeated memory problems.
Foe example, when trying to launch hmvjukebox.exe, I get the following error
twice in quick succession:

"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to
terminate the application."

In additon, McAfee Virus Map Reporting and Security Centre frequently
"encounter problems and have to close". I can't believe that these events are
coincidence. My PC was working perfectly beforehand.

Has anyone experienced similar problems, or have any suggestions? Any help
is gratefully received.
Thanks.

Hi Engel,

Thankyou very much for your suggestions. I have just run the clean-up and
removed over a thousand items from my registry. For completeness I also ran
the tune-up but in an attempt to fix my problem I had already defragmented my
hard disk a few days ago (even though it wasn't strictly necesary).

I'm hoping this fixes the problem. I'll post again in a few days if there
are no recurrences of my problem, or if they occur again.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Engel,

My PC is already up to date so there were not updates for me to apply.

Having tried the clean-up, the first thing I noticed was that during boot-up
I received a massage saying that a required system registry file was missing
and that it had successfully been restored. Seems like the clean-up may have
been a bit too thorough and removed a required file!

Anyway, despite the clean-up I am still experiencing the same errors as
before. Some programs error, and MCAfee suite products in particular still
repeatedly report problems and have to close.

Do you have any other suggestions that I might try?

Thanks Old Rebel. If you have had similar problems then it makes me think
even more that it was not coincidence that my problems started when I
uninstalled Defender!

I'll try your suggestions and hope that they work for me too. However, I'm
not familiar with "sfc", "scannow" and "chkdsk". Please can you explain more
about what they are and how I run them?

Thanks,
Mark

AFter you perform sfc /scannow and chkdsk /R, and repair the scripting engine
and McAFee active X, you might need to do a fresh install of the McAFee
security suite if you are still having problems.

Despite trying everything that has been suggested, I have had no success and
the errors persisted. I've been offline for a while because I exhausted my
patience, formatted my hard disk and started from scratch. Painful yes, but
I'm now problem free again.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
