Memory diagnostic program

I have just run the Windows Memory Diagnostic Program and on the events
progress screen, it showed four items being scanned namely :- INVC, LRand,
Stride6 WMats+. I let it make three passes and the first three items showed
up as being " succeeded " and yet the fourth item WMats stayed on " Active"
with blue color lettering. Did this mean the fourth item was not tested or
does " Active " mean something else? I would be most grateful for an answer.

PS This post in a half finished state may well appear before this one due to
the new post screen disappearing when I was in the middle of it, so please
accept my apologies if this is the case.

Active means that this specific testing function is actively running
and you should wait for it to complete.

Memory tests can be quite time consuming. I generally prefer to let
them run overnight.

Thanks for responding Ron.

I should have mentioned that I was only carrying out the standard ' quick
'test and that I had allowed the utility to make three passes against all
four memory items, including the fourth one which continued to show up as
ACTIVE. I was under the impression the memory check utility only needed to
run two passes to fully complete the test, so why would the last item need
more than two passes. In the quick test Windows says it only needs about 5
minutes to carry out one pass for the standard test suite with my cpu type
and I certainly allowed a lot more than that for three passes. Are you
saying the last item needs more than two passes in which case roughly how
many ? Sorry to appear a bit of a dimbo on this but I am doing the test on
my daughters PC and don't want to trouble her again if I would be wasting my
time letting it run overnight .

If you are in any way uncertain about the results from a memory
testing utility then I suggest that you get a "second opinion" by
using a different memory testing utility and see what that says about
the RAM.
