Is there any (preferably free) software which will read a memory card (when
i slot it into the USB card reader) and take all the pictures, put them in a
user defined file and wipe the card clean ?

Also, it would be great if the software had a little image re-touching such
as brightness, contrast, grain removal etc.

Cheers

You might want to take a look at Picasa
<http://www.picasa.com/google/>

It will detect, import, and clean removable media. It also has a
quick "fix" button (no options but does a fair job for quick fixes),
cropping and red-eye repair.

Just make sure that if reformatting a memory card in your computer it will
use the same format as your camera. You could end up with your camera being
unable to read the memory card.
