I inherited my mother's Gateway Essential PC that
she purchased several years ago with Windows98 and
only 64MB of memory. I upgraded the OS to Windows XP,
but since it was running very slowly, I purchased a
Kinston 168 PIN 128 MEG PC100 memory card wich was
recommended by the computer wiz at the store. The
card fit perfectly into the only available slot inside
the PC, but I can't get the computer to recognize this
new, additional memory. Help! Any solutions/suggestions
will be greatly appreciated.

Buy a boat and go fishing. It will make a wonderful anchor.

Hi,

Try boot into BIOS and check whether the mobo can
recongnize the the new ram chips.
If it can recongnize the new ram chips, remove the old
ram chip and just use the new ram as the spec of the new
& old ram may not be matched.
If the new ram cannot not be detected in BIOS, try update
the BIOS from Gateway's website and try again.
However, I would suggest you to use the new ram only and
discard the old ram as windows XP is very keen on the
spec of ram chips. Of course, there is the possibility
that the new ram chips is faulty.

.
Are the two ram sticks both pc100? if so try swapping
places and see if you loose the 64mb stick. You may have
a bad slot on your motherboard.
