Happy Camper

Both my wife and I have an Asus K8V SE Deluxe and when we run DXDiag it
indicates we have 2 less ram than we have installed. (i.e. I have 3 512
sticks installed but it says I have 1534 ram and she has 2 512 sticks
installed but dxdiag says she has 1022 ram). We both have an AMD 64 CPU ( I
have 3200 and she has 3000) We both have different brands of memory
installed as well. Is there a problem with our memory or a setting
incorrectly set or is this normal? We are both running Windows XP Home SP2
and have the latest Bios (1005) installed.

TIA

right-click on My Computer, select Properties
this should also tell you how much RAM you have

It says 1.50 GB of ram for the computer with 3 X 512 and 1.0 GB of ram for
the computer with 2 X 512 in it. I have a laptop that has 1024 gb of ram in
it an dxdiag comes up with 1024 and that is not an Asus board. Why would
there be a discrepancy?

it's just that tool, it doesn't mean the memory isn't there. I tested
mine and it also shows -2mb, but the windows support site indicates
that the dxdiag info may be "approximate" as the newer versions use
"wmi" to get information directly from the bios. If the bios has some
memory reserved, then I could see why this is reported this way.

ie:Addon cards or onboard peripherals that have boot roms may have
some memory reserved through the bios...
