Hi,

I have 2 gigs of RAM, and in XP's TM, after booting, I would show at least
1.75gigs of available RAM. (pleas don't start a rant about that being a
useless indicator, if you can't, don't reply). In Vista I start out at
1.4gigs, and after opening a simple program, ir drops down to less than
800megs and stays there.

Now, on the flipside, when I look at the resource monitor under Physical
Memory, it will show around 20% used, even after using a few programs. Am I
OK, because Vista seems to use a great deal, and I turned off the eye candy
(Aero, etc) and wernt Classic.

Vista caches certain core processes in RAM. Sometimes, you'll show 100MB
free in task manager. But, if you open a high RAM usage program, it will
unload those core processes from the cache to give to the program. It's
just another way to speed up the core OS.

At risk of being repetitive, unused RAM is wasted RAM.

It's good that the OS is making the most possible use of it. You paid good
money for it, didn't you? Don't worry, as soon as an application wants it,
the OS will release it.

Thack
