I tried a search of the newsgroup first but I couldn't come up with the key
words because I am sure its been discussed before

I have a gift card from a store that is getting ready to expire and I need
to spend it.....big problem huh........anyway I know you guys are sick to
death of people asking about megapixels but I am looking at 2 Sony identical
cameras except for the megapixels. 5.1 & 7.2 plus on the memory the one for
$100 less says 32 MB internal and the other one says just 32MB. I will not be
taking alot of pictures or don't plan on making very large prints. I hate to
call the $100 dispensable but there really isn't anything I want for $100 at
the store. In your opinion should I buy the more expensive camera or use the
$100 for supplies. The info I was able to look up tells me that there really
isn't much difference between the 5.1 & 7.2 megapixels.

Also one more thing is there anything that can be done to reduce the time
lapse when shooting with flash between the click of the camera and the camera
actually firing? Those extra 2 megapixels help me in that area at all?

Thanks for any opinions.

Brad

Unless you plan to do some major cropping
or print lots of images larger than 8x10...the
7MP camera would be overkill IMHO.

In my non-expert opinion if you only use the
camera for casual snapshots and rarely print
anything larger than a 4x6...a 3 MegaPixel is
all you need.

Basically...the more MegaPixels you have...
the larger the file is. Example...
A typical 5MP image at best quality is:
2592x1944 pixels
And a typical 7MP image at best quality is:
3072x2304 pixels

Your computer screen is probably set at
1024x768 so that gives you an idea of the
size of the images. If I open a 3072x2304
image in Digital Image Pro...it shows the
size of the image to be: 42.47" x 32"...
I guess that's nice if you plan to print
posters.

Go to the following sites and read the reviews
of the cameras you are interested in.

There are also sample images you can compare
from each camera. And there are message boards
where you can ask questions.

On Steve's site if you read "Steve's Conclusion"
on the particular model/s you are interested in
he usually discusses the speed of the various
models.

John thanks for the info unfortunately he doesn't review the camera I am
looking at purchasing I am looking at the DSCW5 he reviews a DSCW1 which is a
5 megapixel
so I am guessing that review would be similar to the camera I am looking at,
I think its a new model this year. Once again thanks for your opinion.

John, I didn't realize those were four different websites you gave me I
thought they were all parts of one site......I did find the W5 on two of them
but only with user reviews no professional reviews user reviews can be
helpful depending on the reviewer a lot of these start off with "This camera
rocks!!!!" which will usually make the review a little suspect to
me........lol......

Before you give yourself a nervous breakdown trying to figure out how to
spend that gift certificate before it expires, go to the store and ask to
exchange it for another.

Most states now have laws regarding gift certificates and expiration
dates.... Gift certificates shouldn't have expiration dates, that's like
stealing your money.

Gram

If the Gift Certificate is purchased by a customer then it shouldn't
expiration date.
If the Gift Certificate is provided as a refund then it shouldn't have a
expiration date.
If the store issue the Gift Certificate as a promotion then they have a
right to choose whether or not it expires.
