Meeting request don't appear in my calendar

I upgrade from Outlook 97 to Outlook XP. Since then I have
the following problem: if someone sents me a meeting
request, unless I open it or at least see it in the
preview pane, it doesn't appear in my calendar.
In Outlook 97 I didn't have this problem.
Any idea?

Tools->Options->Calendar->Resource Scheduling->automatically accept meeting
requests.

I've tried that setting, but had no luck. My meeting
requests are still not processed until I open them or see
them in the preview pane.

Thank you anyway for your time.
