XP Pro
Earlier (Win-98) I could play my CD's with Media Player on my 350Mhz
machine. Now with XP Pro it sounds like shit, the sound comes in chunks.
Could there be something needs to be adjusted because my machine is old?
Scrapyard? Compaq machine.
I have tried other media Players too, did not help.
Seems to me XP Pro does not know how to treat my CD-player.
Anybody?

Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices is where you start. Audio
tab, under Sound playback hit the Advanced button. Under Advanced
Audio Properties, and the Performace tab, check the settings.

When you installed Win XP, did you update your drivers? Check with
the manufacturer of your sound card or computer, make sure you have a
Win XP compatible driver.

That said, a 350MHz computer is marginal for most text based Win XP
applications. For audio playback, you're really pushing the limits.
A new computer would certainly be a good idea if you intend to do a
lot of playback.

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
