When I logon windows media player cranks up and covers
the whole screen. I dont want that. I just want it to
remain on the program list until I click on it to open it.
What setting do I hit to make it just go back and stay
dormant on the program list with all the other programs
until I click on it - which is only now and then?

Thanks for any help :-)

Have a look in Start -> All Programs -> Start up

If Media Player is in there remove it.

No its not there. ????
