M Malcolm McCaffery May 13, 2009 #3 AVI files can have multiple codecs. You need to know what codec the file is and ensure it is installed on your machine. It is not a Vista issue. If you can't figure out what codec to use try http://www.videolan.org VLC player which doesn't require downloading codecs and can play most types of media files. If you prefer to use Windows Media Player try downloading a codec pack such as K-Lite Codec pack http://www.codecguide.com/ However please note that some codecs can contain malware, ensure you have an up-to-date virus scanner. regards, Malcolm.
