Hi,

Recently after playing an mpg or avi-file in windows mediaplayer my
processor utilization ramps up to over 90% and i have to manually kill the
explorerprocess via ctr-alt-del.
Can this be some sort of virus I've been infected with? Norton reports
nothing...

I have a p4 3GHz with 1 gig RAM running XP so it isn't that my machine have
a hard time dealing with modern mediafiles.

Any ideas?

Not really. But there is an MS news group devoted to WMP........which I
wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole!! I prefer MusicMatch, which is a free
download, btw. If you want the link for the MS n.g's, let me know.

Cheers......Heather

Hi Seamoon,
Unlikely, but was it something called "mscc32.exe" running at 90% ?
I recently downloaded a file and afterwards my processor would run at 90% +
until I ended the above process. It would re-run when the computer was
re-booted.
If yes, more information can be found at:

Look at the post dated Fri Sep 19th.

Hope this help you or anyone else suffering similar.

correct me if i'm wrong but music match doesn't play movie file formats
such as avi or mpg...

i generally use the divx player for those... and winamp for music files...

Oops......you are right. My WMP comes up for videos, but usually gives me
an error......and I have never been interested in them anyway. But I do
have a question or two for you (off the group) about some mp3's. I will
drop you a line if you don't mind.

Thanx for sorting that one out. Heather

(Winamp didn't seem to like my WinME......but it could have been some other
glitch I suppose, because others who have ME use it.)

could have been the version you tried... v2.x worked pretty well... it
didn't have all the bells and whistles they wanted but it worked...
v3.x sucked real bad - so bad that they skipped 4 entirely and went
right to v5 which has the bells and whistles from v3 but actually
works... if it was v3 you were having problems with it wouldn't
surprise me in the least... it seemed to have been an attempt at a
complete rewrite with all the bugs you'd expect from brand new software...

I am pretty sure it was either a very late version 2 or perhaps the 3 one.
So you hit the nail on the head there. Perhaps I should try an older one.

Wow....I just checked www.oldversion.com and am amazed at how many versions
are on there.......and v.2.91 may have been the one. But it was around the
time of v.3.

No, I have questions about something I wasn't aware of......ALBW mp3's. But
I will write later......I downloaded an Extractor but haven't tried it out.

Cheers......Heather
