Media plays too fast

All media files on my computer are playing faster than they should:
videos,music even the windows starting tune and other sound effects. I've
never come across a problem like this before and I don't know whats causing
it. Is there some kind of setting where I can adjust this?

It happened all of a sudden and I've tried restoring the computer to an
earlier point but nothing doing.

Would appreciate any suggestions

Play a song in Windows Media Player and from
the WMP Toolbar select: Play > Play Speed > Normal
