Hi there

I'm having problems with my media player. Running XP pro and when I play a
CD or a tune stored on the HD, the volume will change as & when it chooses.
Haven't plaeyed a DVD in it for ages and can't be sure if this problem
applies here too. Is this a bug or a setting I can alter?

Any advice greatly appreciated

Andy

Hi Andy

Have you got any background programs running when you are using WMP?

Do you have any music applications installed apart from WMP. make sure that these applications are not running minimized.

Nope, no other programmes open at all - only other music app. installed is
Quicktime and it's closed.

Hope this helps

You might want to try this. It will help you narrow down your problem
anyway: Get a media player called "WinAmp". Just do a search for it,
You'll find it. It is free. When you install WinAmp, check only the
boxes that say "MP3" & "WAV". Uncheck everything else if it is
checked. Save that config. So WinAmp will come up when you click on
a music file on your hard drive.

Also, just to be safe, make sure to open Windows Media Player, and see
if "MP3" & "WAV" are unchecked (should be after you set up WinAmp, but
make sure). If they are not unchecked, uncheck them & save the
config.

Now play a song in WinAmp. If you still get the sound problem, then
you know it is not your Windows Media Player. Maybe your sound card.

By the way, I prefer WinAmp for music. It will actually do everything
Windows Media Player does if you want it to (MPG movie clips &
others). WinAmp also has a bonus - Internet TV, & not just Internet
Radio like the others (RealPlayer & WMP). & finally, WinAmp just
plain looks great! & when playing music, you can shrink it down to a
1 line thick "skin" - a great looking & functioning skin that goes to
the very top of your screen, out of the way. (have it configured so
it "stays on top" in this case when playing music & doing other
stuff).

Wow, Winamp .... I'd forgotten about that. Had it a few years ago but never
reinstalled after a reformat. I'll give it a go over the weekend. Many
thanks to all for their help.
