I have videos downloaded from the camcorder into Roxio but I want to edit and
burn them using Media. How can I convert from the Roxio to enable me to edit
in Windows Media Player?

Here begins the 4098th lesson in how not to post a question.
Windows media player is exactly that and no more, a media player.
Roxio is an application of which there are numerous versions.
You do not convert from Roxio, you convert file types for compatibilty
and size issues etc.
I give up and can't be bothered with this one, anyone else want to
try making sense of this poster?

Get on the net and tryVideo ReDo edits converts to mpeg2 sets it up for
burning on to a dvd or if you really want a challange go to this site
http://replayguide.sourceforge.net good info there. You can also try Nero
7.0 whatever. its a little costly but good results. I wish microsoft would
develop a industrial strength video decoder/encoder for burning dvds that
will not crash. There is a lot of trash out there.

I thought discussion groups were set up to help users - this is the first
time I have used one and if your sarcastic answer was the standard of
response I won't use them again. I am new to this film making game - and was
sold Roxio by Dell which I have struggled with. I subsequently found that
Media Player was free on my PC anyway and 100 times easier to edit, but I
have all my footage on Roxio waiting to edit. You are obviously an "expert"
but presumably you were a novice at one time.

thank you for your response. I will try this.

If you used Roxio's Video Wave to "download" the files to your computer you
can either use that program to create a DV-AVI file which can then be
imported into Roxio's MyDVD to create a DVD of the file/s. If you have the
latest version (8) (start any program and click on Help, About) or the two
previous versions (7.5 or 7) of Roxio's Media Creator this program suite has
Video Wave as part of it. If you have version 6 installed, you probably
don't have Video Wave and I don't know what Roxio program us used and
therefore more information would be needed.

As Decoder stated, Windows Media Player (WMP) is for playing media created
in other programs. If you are talking about Windows Movie Maker (WMM), that
is a different story.

WMM can read almost any graphic file type except it doesn't reliably read
and use MPG files as an input and I suspect that is the file format that you
used Roxio's program to create (look at the file extension type in Windows
Explorer, but first you have to turn on view file extensions for common file
types - look in Google for help to do this.)

Also, what method did you use to hook the camera to the computer during your
"download"? If you used USB the output won't be very good but if you used
IEEE1394 (firewire) you should get great results. Google or search this
newsgroup for many posts in reference to the advantages of firewire over USB
in video captures from cameras.

You cannot edit with media player, you are confused.
Roxio is a far superior editing app than Win Movie maker.
You do not have all your media "on Roxio", it is in a folder
and as a specific file type which is probably not compatible
with WMM.
And another poster, LVTravel has gone to the effort of
decrypting your post and giving you a full response.
Unfortunately, my opinion is you are out of your depth
and as will be the norm for this group, you probably won't
post a thank you to LVTravel, that's life.

There are a lot of narcissists and plain old idiotic jerks around
any newsgroup, Wilton. You just have to learn to ignore them.
You'll find a mountain of good information by ignoring what you
find to be trash and paying attention to those with valid and
real assistance to offer, which you can verify and use.
Sometimes people also just plain have a bad day and feel the
need to lash out; we've all done it. So especially in those
cases, it's still best to just ignore it and move on.
In fact, I'm hgaving a bad day myself; your post kind of
straightened out a bad attitude I was lettinjg slip in. So, in a
way, thanks.

Roxio EMC 10 is near impossible to install! I've been dinking with it for
about 7 days just trying to install it on Windows XP SP2 - it ain't
happening! I've done the Windows Clean Installer routine, removed all
files/folders/etc with the word Roxio, Sonic, and/or Nero and even my
Blackberry device manager software since it has a Roxio program in it, still
the install fails.

Their (roxio) tech support charges $1.85/minute and does not guarantee that
they can even help resolve issues! Roxio did not include a remove older
version files in their new package which is leading to all sorts of
headaches.

WHY DID MICROSOFT let Roxio put a "Certified for Windows XP & Vista" sticker
on the Roxio Box????????????????????????

Should anyone reading this post have a real solution for installing Roxio
MEC 10 on Windows XP SP2 PLEASE post your solution here.

Thank you ahead of time for your assistance in this
