All of a sudden Windows Media Player is opening on boot
up, even though it is not is the startup group. I am
using Windows XP Pro, and Media Player 8.

Hi John,

Perhaps it's not WMP itself that is loading, but a media file instead.
Start/run msinfo32, expand the software environment and click on the startup
programs. Look through this list of loading files for clues. It should also
indicate where each is loading from, so you will know where to look to
disable it. If you are unsure of how to disable any entry, please post back
with the startup location.

Hi Rick,

Thanks much for the help. I should have thought of using
MSinfo32. Oh well, when I mentioned the problem to a
coworker who is an MCSE, he didn't think of it either; so
I'm glad you did, and were willing to share your
knowledge.

The system info utility directed me to a registry key
which I deleted, and now things are back to normal.

Thanks again.

Cool!, thanks for the feedback John.
