media player not accessing internet

My version of media player will not allow me to change the options/tools to
allow automatic access to internet databases. When I rip music it will not
provide the album info. I noticed that the problem doesn't seem to exist with
9 or other earlier versions but now XP won't let me install an earlier
version. Any thoughts?

Is File > Work Offline checked?

work offline was not checked...in the privacy field the option to allow
display info from internet cannot be checkeded. The text appears grey and
check box does not work
 
Did you use SafeXP? There's a couple third party tools that completely turn
this feature off, as you're seeing here. You would need to get them to undo
that.
