I have Media aPlayer 9 and it works fine. But when I try to watch mivies or
clips online it freezes and all the computer crashes.
It doesn't do that with YouTube and sites like that.Mostly it does it when
there are .avi files to play. What is wrong and how to fix it?

iirc you need an appropriate codec to play xvid avi's in WMP. Doesn't
play them by default. It should gives you an error message otherwise,
not lock up, but who knows?

Beats me. I never have been able to get WMP9 to display streaming
video under Win2kPro, SP4. The machine simply stops. I've tried what
must be every possible WMP installation configuration. I just figured
the discrepancy to be part of M$' coercive upgrade policy: The older
Win2k gets, the smaller percent of M$ geewhiz will be backward
compatible. What I find most annoying is that otherwise reliable
services -- U.S.A.'s PBS, for example -- have been duped into adopting
M$' proprietary format; I guess Wild Bill must give them money and
stuff....
