media player codec

I am tring to play a movive file from a cd which a friend
has created for me it is a media player file, but media
player will only play the sound and not the actual
movie,it says in the bottom left hand corner error
downloading codec? can anyone help me play it, or what i
need to downlaod

Ask your friend what codec he used when he encoded the movie file, then
download and install it. Not all codecs are available from the update site
WMP accesses. It's probably the DiVX codec at this is the most common.
