Hi,
When I try to play an MP3 file with MP 11 the thing just hangs there
forever, and no music. Sometimes it will start to count up like it is playing
but stillno sound. Winamp, VLC, MP 6.4x all work fine.

All other types play fine.

Anyone have any ideas?

Dell d400 1.6g Pentium M XP pro

Thanks,

Piper

Hi, thanks for trying but there isn't any useful information in either of
those support documents. Neither of them address the actual problem which is
that MP3 files will not play in my installation of MP11 but they do play in
any other MP3 player installed on my PC including the legacy MP 6.4x.

It is obvious that WMP11 is not your default player. The same answer for
WMP10 applies for WMP11. Use Windows Explorer, navigate to one of
your MP3 files, probably in My Music, rightclick the file and click "Open
with...." then select WMP11 and see what happens. You can set it there
to open ALL your MP3 files with WMP11. You can also go to your CD-Rom
Properties and click the AutoPlay tab to select WMP11.

Not so obvious is that the reason that wmp 11 is not the default player for
mp3 is because it will not play mp3s as described in the first post. It used
to but it does so no longer. All the other players do play mp3s quite easily.

Any ideas as to why wmp11 stopped playing mp3s (default type or not)?

Take a look here:
Open WMP>click Tools>Options>File Types tab>"Select All" button>
Apply>OK out. Check to make sure MP3 is on the list.

Ok, yes it is on the list, and selecting it makes WMP 11 the default
application and when I try to play an MP3 nothing happens as I described in
my first post.

Any ideas as to why WMP 11 chokes on MP3 files?

Thanks,

Piper

Hi, you are right. It plays mp3s. I just discovered that it plays any mp3 I
throw at it off a cd or downloaded but not if downloaded by IE or Firefox via
HTTP. I'm not sure about other protocols. I go to ESPN podcast center d/l a
show or 'play' it and wmp11 will not play it but any of my other mp3 players
play the file no problem. This is driving me nuts!

This may need to addressed in an other newsgroup but if anyone has any
ideas....

Thanks,

Piper

I cannot see TOOLS in my WMP11. Where is it?
