I can't get sound to play on any dvd files - even the ones I have on my PC.
WMP 11 plays mp3s and other sound files fine. I have downloaded Power DVD
Trial version and this works but it doesn't resolve my problem. It also
affects Media Centre too!.
I did read on another site that it can be caused by Nero, I did have this
installed and I have now un-installed it but this did not resolve the issue.

I have tried all the obvious stuff like checking all my sound options in
Control Panel etc., it just appears that my audio codecs have become corrupt.
Has anyone please got any ideas how I can resolve this as it is driving me
nuts!!

Windows Media Player going back several versions ALWAYS had problems
with accessing CODECS, audio ones in particular.

This sound familar?

You attempt to play a vid and Media player says in needs to find a
codec, it says it will look on the web, it may come back and say it
found one, you click ok to install it and still nothing is hear?

Welcome to the club. If you can play the files and HEAR them in other
players then the fault isn't a CODEC rather how dumb Media Player is.

I haven't had time to try it yet, since it is only a minor annoyance
and I rarely use Media Player anyway, but next time it pops up a error
message, let it try to find the codec, when it comes back and says it
found one, write down the full file name, then use Search to look for
it on your system and cookies to donuts you'll see you already have a
copy of the file installed, probably in System32. To rule out is may
have got corrupted, rename the file by finding it in Windows Explorer,
right, properties, add a X in front of the file name, close down Media
player and again let it try. It should install a fresh copy of the
codec. If it does, it may play, but I wouldn't bet on it.
