Is it possible to get a plug in for Movie Maker to edit Media Center recorded
videos. I want to use Movie Maker to remove commercials etc from Recordings

Hello,

Not that I have heard mentioned. If the files are MPeg based such as DVD-VR
then you can edit with no loss of quality using Nero 6. You can get a 30
day trial version from www.nero.com. I use this program to edit out adverts
from my dedicated DVD TV-Satellite recorder and then use the same program
to create a DVD with Chapters multi screen menus etc etc....Pretty Good
Stuff

Media Center TV is recorded in DVR-MS you are not able to edit it with Nero.
There are a few programs that will do it but they do have some glitches. A
good site to find out about MC and get the program called DVR-Edit (Simple
DVR editing and DVR-MPEG/MPEG-DVR conversion utility) at
http://www.thegreenbutton.com/

Another editing program is http://www.inseattle.org/~dan/Dcut.htm. After
using one of these you can use any DVD burner software to burn the files.

Also you may want to check out the public NG

Thanks, after I made the post, I did manage to find on MS site Q/A the same
response, NO, essentially. I will take a look at Nero.

James, you are mistaken. NeroVision Express 3.0, included
is in Nero 6 Ultra DOES allow you to import, edit, & burn
Media Center DVR-MS files (as long as they're not copy
protected, i.e. HBO).

You are also mistaken about DVR-Edit. That does allow you
to edit DVR-MS files, but it does NOT allow you to convert
them to MPEG.

Hi John,

Unless there's a setting that I couldn't find,
Nero seems to always reencode the video, even
if it's already in MPEG-2 format. If that is
the case, the conversion will not be lossless.
But I do agree with you that it does a good
job anyway.

If there is a way to force Nero to NOT reencode
the video, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks.

Microsoft doesn't have a very coherent story here.

On one hand, WMV is great, and you can easily use WMM2 to create WMV. But
MCE (now in its third release), still doesn't have an option to record TV
shows to WMV; my understanding is that DVR-MS is a MPEG-2 variant and is
need because there isn't yet hardware available to encode WMV.

Hello,

I have not seen it done myself, but, I am told that Nero 6 will provide
editing for MCE created files. According to the website you quote it is
easy to create the files on an RW disk...the rest would fall into the
Domain of Nero which provides full editing facilities for DVD-VR. Having
checked on Nero's site I do not find any mention one way or other about the
Microsoft format...it would be a little strange though if your remarks were
true, considering how much effort Nero have put into the VR technology

"Bob [MVP]" James, you are mistaken. NeroVision Express 3.0, included

Thanks Bob I have Nero but not Nero 6 Ultra so maybe I should download it
and try it out.
I have adjusted my notes forgot "DVR-MPEG not Yet Implemented". Have to use
DVR-Ripper:)

Excuse my confusion Don1

Hello Bob,
I just installed WMC 2005, and like others, would think that Ms would
include a utility that would act like DVR, where one can view and edit seanse
(mainly commertical) like Don1 indecated. Why should one go out and purchase
yet another tool to do it. When I purchased my Panasonic DVD Recorder, it had
all needed utilities to do the job; do you know if I am missing something or
what do I need to do?

Regards,
Abe

I don't have an answer as to "why" Microsoft didn't include
the ability edit Recorded TV shows in Media Center. It
would have been a great feature, IMO.

So unfortunately your only option is to use some other 3rd
party software, if that's what you want to do.

BTW, just in case you're not aware of it, there is a newsgroup
specifically for Media Center Edition computers.

to Dump to hard disk
