Mechwarrior 4: Vengeance MP problems

hi when i try to conenct to a multip player game through the games
multiplayer function i get an error.
i connect to zonematch and get the list of games up but when i try to join
ANY game i get the followign error:
"cannot join the selected game. There may be network problems or the server
is no longer running"
ive tried turning my firewall off but this is not working,
i am running windows XP

Hello, are you using the latest patch?

when i try to install the patch v3.0 i get an error code 0036
i have uninstalled the entire game and deleted the entire directory and made
sure its not in add/remove programes and then resinstalled and i still get
the same error code 0036,
i cant play online because i dont have the patch and the patch wont install!
