i'm having trouble with my LAN speed
When I go to a shared folder from another computer, and right click a
folder, it takes about 30 seconds before the menu comes up. It takes a
long time to open folders too.

I tried transferring a file a while back, and It did 10MB in 10
minutes.

iperf says 2.41 Mbits/sec

What could be the cause of my LAN being so slow ?

Both machines are XP Pro sp2
I have 2 comps plugged into a Dlink dsl 504 which is a router modem.

DLINK = slow & trash.
Try adding "netbeui" protocol to each and set the bindings for file &
printer sharing only to it.

There could be any number of things effecting the speed of your lan but
for a quick 20% increase disable the QoS on your nic's by default XP has
it turned on, this Quality of Service protocol reserves 20% of your
bandwidth you dont need this for a home network disable it.
