what is the largest amount of physical memory usable on ME
.
At one point I read that WinME has a "sweet spot" for
RAM. Although it will use over 256MB, it generally uses
around 384MB. From what I remember, it will perform
better if you only have that amount installed (i.e. "more
the better" is not necessarily true).

Try doing a search for WinME Ram and see what you find.

Windows 98SE and Windows ME only like to use 512MB of RAM, before you needed
to install a registry patch so as to enable more RAM.

First of all, this is a Windows XP newsgroup. You will have a much
better chance of getting useful responses if you post your WindowsMe
related requests to a WindowsMe newsgroup such as
microsoft.public.windowsme.general

Secondly, ignore the responses from (e-mail address removed) and "Yves
Leclerc" as they are both incorrect. There is no such thing as a
"sweet spot" amount of RAM for any version of Windows.

WindowsMe was originally designed to be capable of handling up to 2 gb
of physical RAM. However hardware capable of testing this capability
was not generally available until sometime after the product was
releates. Subsequent experience has shown that there is a
configuration setting that needs to be entered if you have more than
512 mb of RAM and that there are hardware related problems that can
occur if you go beyond 1 gb of RAM. There is no known instance of
anyone successfully using WindowsMe on a computer with more than 1.5
gb of RAM although there are some who do use it with exactly 1.5 gb.

Good luck
