ME-99 board + Windows 2000 = turns itself on

At my work there are three computers with ME-99 motherboard and Windows 2000
installed. If we shut them down and leave it as is, it will inexplicably
turn itself on, unless I turn off the power switch on the power supply
itself. But some other ME-99 boxes in the office that run Windows 98 does
not do this.

I am sure on all three computers the auto-power-up option in BIOS is
disabled. I only leave enough power management enabled to not require me to
press the power switch after shutting down.

Any suggestions?

TIA
Keith

Double check the BIOS setup. In addition to the "Auto Power Up" setting
there are also:

AC Power Loss Startup
Power up on Modem Activity
Wake on LAN

Check if you have wake up cables from MB to NIC or Modem.

I don't think W2K should over-ride the BIOS settings but who knows.

Check. I don't think that card support wakeup at all.

Win2k power management is set to always on.

It still turns itself on to this date.

Any more help?

Thanks

Have you checked the event logs. I'm wondering if the PC's startup
always at the same time. That may indicate that you have some sort of
automated task running.

I checked the event logs on two similar machines for the last two days. It
indicates that the computers turn itself on at midnight, but there is
nothing indicating any automated task running.

OK, since the machines are starting at the same time, I think there is a
real good chance that Windows is the culprit. What you need to do is
reformat the drives and then load Linux... Ha, just kidding!!!!

Try this:

Go to the Control Panel and click on the icon for "Scheduled Tasks". If
you see anything listed there, right click on it and select Properties.
Go to the "Settings" tab and look at the bottom for "Power options". See
if the block is checked to "wake to run task". If so you need to uncheck
it. Then check the rest of the scheduled tasks.

Hope this helps
