Hello

I've made my database secure (access 2000) by making user group and assigning permissions, which has created an *.mdw file and a shortcut to my database which prompts the user form a user name and pasword. Now I would like to transform the front end into an mde file but can't figure out how to get the shortcut to redirect the password logon to the new mde file instead of the old database

Any ideas

Creating users & groups does not "create" an mdw file. Access *always* uses
an mdw file. By default, it uses a default one. The first step in creating a
properly secured database, is to use the workgroup administrator program
(maybe an option now in A2000) to create & join a new, secured workgroup
file - *before* you create any users or groups. If you have not done that,
you have missed a critical step. Find a copy of the "Access Security FAQ",
and follow it *precisely*, adding & omitting nothing.

Now I would like to transform the front end into an mde file

Just open the front-end mdb, then select Tools : Database Utilities : Make
MDE file.

but can't figure out how to get the shortcut to redirect the password
logon to the new mde file instead of the old database.

Right click the shortcut, select properties & look at the Target field.
Change the mdb file name to the appropriate mde file name.
