Iam just a beginner in Ms-Access. I have created a mdb file on my PC. I
have copied it to a shared folder on another PC which does have the MS-
ACCESS program installed on it. But the second PC is already running other
applications created in Ms-ACCESS. When I copy the MDB to the desktop of
the second application and try to run it ,an error " Couldn't find the
System.mdw file" is being displayed.
Please advice on how to resolve this problem as Iam new to MS-Access.
thank you

On the PC where your copied application gets the error in question:

- exactly how are you starting the copied mdb (the one that gets the
error)?

- exactly how do you start the /other/ mdb's (the ones that do not get
the error)?

The MDB file is saved in the D:/program files/microsoft office/office
folder. I traverse through to the Office folder and double click the MDB
file Icon there inorder to start the database.

You haven't told me /which/ mdb file that is (the good one or the bad
one), & you only answered one question (not two).

Please answer /both/ questions, clearly; I'll only be here for another
20 minutes!

I just double click on the icons inorder to start the good one and bad one.

Well, sorry, but I can't see any way that double-clicking on one mdb
file would work, but double-clicking another mdb file on the same PC
would say: "Couldn't find the system.mdw file".

When you double-click an mdb file, Windows starts Access, and Access
looks in the registry for the name & location of the default workgroup
(mdw) file. Access then uses that file for opening that mdb.

So, if you are opening different mdb's by double-clicking them, there
is no way that Access would be looking for different workgroup files,
imo. In each case, it will get the name & location of the mdw file,
from the registry. So there is no way it could get the error in
question for one mdb, but not for another, imo - /IF/ you are opening
both by simple double-clicking, and, you are doing this on one PC.

So I feel you must be mis-describing the problem somehow!

Unfortunately I have to go in a moment; but I'll check back tomorrow;
and maybe someone else will jump in before then.

Cheers,
TC

Thank you for the reply.
but Iam now facing another problem.
When the MDB file is copied to another PC does the system.mdw file also
get copied along with it? I converted the MDB file to the earlier version
i.e. msaccess 97. I had earlier set the users to everyone for the MDB
databse. when I copy the MDB file do I have to copy the system.mdw file
along with it? I created a custom work group by using the utility
wrkgadm.exe on the other PC. then I created shortcut on the desktop and
set the target for the shorcut to the path of the msaccess.exe,system.mdw
and mdb file on the second PC.
Iam able to open the application without any error message being displayed
but only the enus are displayed no forms, reports etc are displayed.
kindly help me.
thank you
