Access2K,win2k sp4
A db, 24mb, that was functioning OK a few hours ago is suddenly giving an
error 'Cannot find the file d:.....\my.mbd or one of its components' a log
file has been generated. - I cannot find it, the log -
This occurs when opening from a shortcut or within Access. Other mdb's are
ok. A detect/repair doesnt help.
An access.lockfile.9 seems to be being generated, least one is suddenly
appearing.
Attempting to copy the mdb gives a Cyclic redundancy check error. Chkdsk
reports no problems, allthough using the /R switch it froze at 75%.
Any thoughts?

The database is more than likely corrupt.

From the "Run" box
drwtsn32
then in the "Application Errors" box highlight the error and "View" to see
the log file.

No errors shown by Dr.Watson, though event viewer is now showing hd bad
block errors. So I guess thats it, and the hd is just 12mnths old!
Ta.

Could be; though Access database corruption in of itself is quite common.

Just run the manu.hd checker utility, reports many surface errors. SiSoft
reports Smart failure.
BTW I've run Access2K 24mb db for many years, 24/7, and never had any
corruption - famous last words! - other than the occasional loss of linkage
in a form.
For interest how would you repair a corrupt db? assuming Compact/Repair
doesnt do it.
Regards.

Sorry, I was in a bit of a hurry this AM. Here's an article that might help.
Try the /compact and or /repair switches of msaccess.exe

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;209207

Hope this helps.
