MD5 problems with KNOPPIX

I've downloaded 2003-07-26 four times
and each time the exact byte count is correct
and yet the MD5 checksum is wrong.
And all the checksums are different from each other.

I'm puzzled. This has never happened before.
I downloaded the three Mandrake CDs and they all had the correct MD5.

What might be going on?
This is the download path for the last three attempts:
<ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/knoppix/KNOPPIX_V3.
2-2003-07-26-EN.iso>

Chris ....

I had a similar problem with Knoppix downloads
a few months ago, where the MD5 results didn't
match up with those posted ...

However, it worked fine after burning to CD
and booting from a floppy disk ...

Hmmm ... it's a bit weird though!
Why *shouldn't* the md5 check out?
It does for other big downloads.
I don't like the idea of having something wrong right from the start.
Does it make a difference where you download from?
Or what method is used?
(I was using Star Downloader.)

i downloaded it normally with an ftp client and everything came out
fine.

...
the naked music collection:

a site worth hearing.

Good! I'm trying it with WS_FTP to see if that makes any difference.
Here's hoping.
What can cause corrupted downloads though?

Yippee!
Maybe it didn't like Star Downloader creating several download threads?

Chris, have you encountered this problem before using Star Downloader?
I am about to uninstall it as I get about 10-15% fawlty downloads.
That is corrupt files that, when downloaded with other managers like
DLExpert or Wget from the same locations, seem to be OK on the
servers. Well, back to my trusted applications or to try something
new.

Yes - now that you mention it, I have.
I'd never attributed the cause to Star Downloader.
I've not tried a different downloader. Maybe they are not necessary
anyway - there doesn't seem much wrong with using WS_FTP - does there?
What do people think?
