Can anyone help please? In the Win.ini File the mci extensions section does
not exist causing a problem when I attach music files to an e-card I made
through the Hallmark Card Studio. it won't play.
How do I get them as the Windows XP installation CD was not provided with my
PC, it was preinstalled.
Also I cannot install the latest Windows Validation Tool in order to receive
the latest critical updates, it will download after I've validated it but
won't install all of a sudden, despite having received all the latest updates
for the past 2 years.
Everything's going wrong, please help if you can.
Thanks in advance.

Look for a file named win.ini.backup in C:\WINDOWS\pss or %windir%\pss. If
there is see if it has [mci extensions].

Start | Run | Type: msconfig | Click OK |
Win.ini tab | See if [mci extensions] is UNChecked |
If it is, give it a checkmark | Click Apply | Click OK

Thanks for replying.
The file you mentioned below carries all the mci extensions
"Look for a file named win.ini.backup in C:\WINDOWS\pss or %windir%\pss. If

In the Win.ini tab I only have this which is checked
[VMDCTS20] which opens up to include KEY, TAG, OPTION, FILTER all of which
are checked.
In the SYSTEM.INI mci is listed and checked.

The problem I'm having comes up with this message when I try and add music
to an e-card and then click send, that's why I thought something was wrong
with the mci
"The specified file cannot be played on the specified MCI device. The file
may be corrupt, not in the correct format or no fil" and then goes on to
follow with this message
Unable to Attach Your Email Card.
The card will open and play in Windows Media Player but without the music.

Thanks,

Skye

I doubt that this will help, however you can try this.

Copy win.ini.backup from C:\WINDOWS\pss paste the copy of win.ini.backup on
your desktop.

Rename win.ini.backup to win.ini

Drag the win.ini from your desktop to C:\WINDOWS

Click Yes if you see a popup message that says,

You're doing just great so far, the Win.ini files are now all back together

improvement. All I'm left with now is this message when I try to play the card

Any clues on this?

My Codecs are automatically configured to download daily.
Have downloaded GSpot for assistance in finding missing ones and it says
none are but in the "Stream Type & A/V Interleave" box the I/L is not
supported which may be the problem, now to find out how to solve that.
Many thanks, catch up with you tomorrow if you have any further clues!!!!
