MCI Command Error exiting XP

Just a shot in the dark here;
Just recently, I'm getting an MCI Command Handling window on shutdown.
There's a lot of talk about this on various web sites but no one seems to
have come up with an answer for what's causing it.
Anyone experiencing this or know anything that might be useful in nailing it
down?
Thanks

Hi Brian;
Its a dialog window that opens when I hit the "turn off" button on shutdown.
It simply says MCI Command Handling Window will close application; and it
shows a running progress bar. There are two buttons showing; end task, and
cancel; either one finishes exiting Windows.
Its strange really. There seems to be a lot of information on it on a Google
web search but no one seems to have a direct handle on it. I don't believe
its a virus or embedded worm, at least my AV isn't picking it up.
I did recently download two items from Windows updates; Media Player 10 and
the October update for DirectX 9c. Could be something there.
I've just now downloaded Media Player 11 hoping that if it was 10 causing
it, 11 would over ride and possibly fix the issue.

No; just the desktop. I always shut down all programs before hitting the
start button to shut down.
There are several posts on the web referencing Media Control, but nothing
difinitave. It might have been the Windows Media Player download. I upgraded
to 10 from 9 this week....and just tonight have upgraded again to 11 trying
to override a possible corrupted file in 10.
Is there a way to uninstall WMP completely and start from scratch? I see
nothing in add/remove programs.
Perhaps tonight's upgrade of WMP will solve it?? :))
