Hello.

I have MCE on one machine, Home on another. On MCE, Windows Explorer has a
Security tab for file properties that allows me to tailor permissions for
groups/usernames. Can/how do I get the same detailed Security tab on Home?

Thanks in advance -- Dave

Not really.
You can boot into Safe Mode and log on as 'Administrator' and get the
functionality - sort of.
But really - Windows XP Home just doesn't give you that type of control.

Windows XP Media Center has it because it is based of Windows XP
Professional - not Home.

Thanks for the response. So ...... how can I delete folders/files
that are "access denied" even when logged in as Admin?

Read *carefully* - do not just skim the page and start following steps.
There is important information there dependent on the version of Windows XP
you have.

ALSO - once you own them - you might need to use something like:

That's odd. I just took delivery of a new computer with MCE installed
and there's was no Security tab in the Properties dialog. Is this
something you have to turn on manually ?

Simple File Sharing turned off?

Shenan,

Any chance there's a "simple file file sharing" setting in the Home
registery that could be flipped? (worth a chance)

Thx Dave

Possibly, depending on how the OEM configured the system. In order to
have the Security tab, the hard drive partition(s) must have been
formatted using the NTFS file system, and Windows Explorer's Simplified
File Sharing "feature" must be turned off.
