McAfee Version 8 is pretty poor

This version seems like a massive downgrade from the previous versions. You
can't set it up to only scan your local drives automatically, so if you are
on a network, it will always attempt to scan all of them. There doesn't seem
to by any way to get a log of what was scanned, and there is no way to
control what scripts are ok to run.

IMHO this is a POC, it's currently free, and you definitely get value for
money.

It's not just pretty poor, it's f*cking terrible!!!!

Many times over the last couple months my computer (2.66 GHz
windowsXP) has come to a standstill. When I check the windows task
manager to find out what program is using up all of my cpu, it is
ALWAYS McShield!

What kind of morons are they to use up 100% of the cpu cycles?

They thought that it would be a great idea to convert the retail box
versions to online versions. In doing so they missed a "few" bugs and lost
several good features of vs7.

I would expect mcafee has learnt from this mess and vs9 should be better.(
always hope)

Re the issues with vs8 vs8.1 is nearly here and should address fixes for
several anoying bugs in the current version but maybe not include
enhancements.

Not withstanding the above I have been running it since day 1 and had minor
issues other than the server time out and minor email scanning issues of
which the workarounds helped me.
Peace

I've been fighting with my f***ing laptop all day because of the CPU
utilization sitting at 100% CPU due to Mcshield.exe Fixed it now,
which is a relief. How ? Simple - just disable MS Indexing Server
service (cisvc.exe) and the mcshield.exe CPU utilization dropped off
the bottom of the world (well nearly anyway). I'm guessing Mcshield
was so busy because the Indexing Server is always updating itself ??

Of course, this is only a good fix if you don't need that
service...;-)
