McAfee V 6.02 and I can't update my DAT files- without buying the newest program

I bought McAfee anti-virus less than 2 years ago and have paid for the
update of the DAT files a year ago. Now that the one year purchase has run
out, I went to their web site to pay again- but they'll no longer sell the
DAT files to people with anything older than V7.

Well, it's their right to sell their products on their terms- but I resent
having to buy a new program to get the new DAT files- it's not like I have
an ancient obsolete version.

It looks like buying the new version isn't that much more expensive than
buying the DAT files- but I have a very poor net connection living in the
boondocks- I'm lucky to get 26 baud. If I go to download the files needed to
update my program to V9?- it might take all day. I suppose I can run down to
the local Staples and buy a new program that way, but this policy of forcing
me to buy the newer program is NOT customer friendly.

Or am I misunderstanding something here?

Try NOD32. Once you buy any version of it you can renew it for life
and they have smaller incremental updates than McAfee.
