I've just bought and installed Mcafee (what a damn stupid name that is, I
can never remember if it is mcafee, or macafee or macaffee or mcaffee, why
didn't they call their company "Bertie"?) on my mother's computer, and it
all seemed fine.
I was certain I had chosen the option such that it would only update
manually, yet today, my mother reports that a Dial-up networking box popped
up, in the middle of doing something else. Since she only occasionally
connects to the Internet, I really don't want this happening, I just want to
do the updates either when she is actually on line, or when I manually
choose to do it during any of my visits.
I've a gut feeling that since this version (8, 2004 edition) is tied in much
more to Internet Explorer, that this might now be an explorer network
setting ("don't dial a connection etc"). Actually, I consider this a
negative step on the part of Mcafee - a non-browser window is definitely
preferable to bringing up a browser window, why do companies always move in
the wrong direction with develepment?
Anyhow, to the point - does someone with this "red M in the corner" version
of Mcafee know how to disable automatic dialling, because if this can't be
fixed, it will have to be uninstalled - can't have that damn box popping up
every few minutes, virus or no.
