Can someone please tell me how I get rid of McAfee anti-virus remnants on my
computer? I switched from McAfee anti-virus software over to ZoneAlare Pro
but I don't think the friend that uninstalled McAfee used the proper method?
I have tried every way I know to get rid of them. I have used "Vcom
SystemSuite 7 Professional" "RegCure" "eTrust Internet Security Centre Pest
Control" "Ad-Aware SE Profession" "SpyBot Search & Destroy" and ZoneAlarm
Professional". I can delete them but when I start-up the computer they are
back on it again. Can anyone help me to get rid of all references relating
to McAfee?

Thanks for any advice.

Have you tried this tool from McAfee?

(and read the instructions carefully.)

In addition to Fred's excellent advice, a couple of links that you
might want to look at, Scottie.

And Don Pelotas (KL) put this together.

I installed ZoneAlarm Pro. I'm sixty four (64) years old and I know very
little about computers, therefor any advice I get must be simple to do. When
I try unziping files ect, I get into a a bit of a fix and give up.

You're 64, I'm older. :-)

Thats right BTS give nothing away, but it's nice to know your older. BTS can
you tell me how I can get rid of the McAfee rubbish thats left on my
computer without downloading more stuff I have to unzip? I would like to do
it manually myself if possible, that way I would know what was going on, I
think?

Try this:
<http://tools.mcafeehelp.com/doc.php?siteid=1&docid=71541&support=ts>
There is an executable file there to download - a removal tool - as well
as a bunch of instructions.

Long ago, I used McAfee "Office" with NT 3.51. When I upgraded to NT 4.0
and attempted to reinstall it, I got a dialog that said "You are using
NT 4.0" (well, duh!) and the install quit. I called McAfee for an
upgraded version at a reduced price, but nooooo ... they wanted another
$80. So, buh-bye.

Lots of free stuff out there: http://k75s.home.att.net/tips.html

Thats alright,I'll be fifty soon.......

I don't think Zone Alarm Pro has a AntiVirus included. I could be
wrong(there's been a lot of that going around lately). I have found
Nod32(one of the best AV's) easy to install and use. About zip files-I
use PowerArchiver, also very easy to install and use. You can find the
free version here:

For a general cleaning of your system,I use CrapCleaner

I never understood why so many have problems getting rid of McAfee? My
pc came with it and when my 90 days were up I just went to control
panel and un-installed it using the McAfee un-install utility
provided, and then replaced it with another. I do remember having to
totaly disable it from running before windows would allow the un-
install, but thats the only problem I ran into. If the folders/files
still being in existance bothers you can remove most of them from C:
\Program Files\McAfee\ but I have known ppl who tried to manually
remove "every single" McAfee related file they could find and screwed
up the OS so bad they had to do a full system recovery so be careful
if you go that route. Good Luck. :-)
