Mcafee is driving me nutier!

Can anyone suggest a method to stop the "automatic" update feature of McAfee
Online Antiviris? I have selected the manual update mode in the configure
window. No luck. Also tried to stop it in the task scheduler. Nope. Finally
tried to remove the offening files reported by my firewall. (By the way had
to go to DOS mode before I could do this.) And as might be expected Mcafee
would no longer load.

I am aware that with Swen everywhere this might not be the time to go
manual, but I am fairly deligent so sometime in the future I may still wish
to go manual. I'm just so tired of getting sales pitches for the other Mc
products in which I have no interest.

Finally, is there other good AV that may not have this problem.

My mother has McAfee, and she called them and complained about the
automatic update (she has paid for the update several months ago). I
don't know what they told her, but the automatic updates have stopped.
I suggest that you call or write McAfee and complain.

I'm sure that there are some smaller vendors that offer good products.
However, I am happy with Norton. It has *never* bothered me with an
update offer or any other problem, and has not let a single virus
through in 2.5 years.
