If you have recently uninstalled an older version of McAfee and reinstalled
the newer version (I have version 7.2 build 7.2.147 complements of Comcast)
the uninstaller fails to remove all of the old files. This causes excessive
access to your hard drive and slows your system to a crawl. The fix is as
follows:
Start --> Run --> type in 'services.msc' --> click OK
A list of system services will appear. Find "McAfee Services' in the list.
Right-click that line and select the 'Properties' option. On the General tab
ensure that the file file path leads to mcmscsvc.exe. If so, click on 'Stop'
and then change the 'Automatic' selection to 'Disabled'.
