MCAD / MCSD Learning.

I am basically going head first into trying to gain certification in MCAD &
MCSD. But, knowing schooling is not an option, since I work too much to take
classes, if there any published materials I could buy that can help with
self-study? Also, with the lack of funds, would it be possible to go from
software to software to learn. Examples are: Visual C++ .Net to learn the
language, then Visual Basic .Net to learn that, then Visual C#. Net with ADO
..Net and ASP.Net? Is something like that possible? And what tpyes of jobs
could I get from learning all of that?

If you get a certification, you will get the type of jobs that all the MVP's
you see on these newsgroups that also have certifications. NO JOB.

Why? because certifications are frowned upon in the REAL world. If
certifications were so good, how come all these MVP's have all the time in
the world to answer the same simple questions over and over again and spend
all their time here, year in and year out? Just remember, even Microsoft
can't even get their own software products out on time, how in the world do
all the certified software programmers have all the time in the world to
answer questions on these newsgroups?

To answer my question. well, because certifications are completely
meaningless and NO, it doesn't set a standard in the real world for getting
the job done, but it does set a standard among those to give and take tests
all day and how many trivial and meaninless questions they can answer in 60
minutes or so
 
Certification is a foot-in-the-door thing for those with no experience on
their resume. It certainly helped me get a job at a bank having a Novell CNA
but after that, I still had to show I could do the work.

Look at the help wanted ads in a big city newspaper and see what they want.
If you find they want you to be certified for that dream job you want then
go for it. Otherwise take whatever you can get to keep you going until the
right job comes along. Once you have 20 years of experience then you can go
into consulting which pays better and your clients don't care if your
certified for the most part.
