2 month ago i got the mblast virus. I downloaded the
appropriate file and fixed it. Today I was downloading a
file and it came up saying it was corrupted or contained
virus. I deleted this file. When I now log on to XP
Professional it says "Mblast.exe has encountered and
error" and then proceeds its usual send message error to
microsoft. My computer has not shutdown yet. How do I get
rid of this message?

Hi there...
Go to the following site and about halfway down the page under
"recommendations" you will find info on getting rid of this completely:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.html

Also, have a look here:
http://www.zdnet.com.au/techcentre/antivirus/tips/story/0,2000045015,20277172,00.htm

and
http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_100547.htm
(Look under removal instructions)
or have a look here under disinfection:
http://www.europe.f-secure.com/v-descs/msblast.shtml

Post back and let us know if you were able to clear this from your
system. The patch must be installed and run first before you follow the
rest of the directions to completely rid yourself of this worm.

yeah thanx, i think i have fixed it now. If I reinstall
xp do i have to run the microsoft security patch again to
cover the hole? I have done this and am crossing my
fingers but it would be good to know if it happens again.

Hi there...
And no problem.
Only if you are going to the windows update site or legitimate sites
like MS TechNet or Security Sites, etc...to grab the patch. Never grab
a download from your email as MS would never send that type of info in
an email.
And only grab the patch if you really need it. You can often find if
your system truly needs a patch or not, by clicking on the "read more"
first and then going to the sites listed to read whether or not the
problems these patches are created for are truly affecting your
particular system.
Take Care...
