Hi

I have got myself a problem with some new webcams I bought recently

I have two PC's almost twins (same MSI mb + cpu + gfx +PSU, different memory
sticks and
disks)

On one PC both cams work as expected with Windows Live Messenger
On the other PC Live Messenger crashes to the desktopn when usb cable from
the webcam is attached
Also Steam Friends does not work anymore
As soon as the cable is pulled out both programs is working ok

Both PC's runs with XP sp2 (us-english)
Both PC's is updated with newest drivers etc

Any ideas on how to proceed with troubleshooting?

Thanks in advance
- Peter

Yep I can see that messenger crashed due to a faulty module ...
If you`ve got a full winXP sp2 CD.
Start\Run type in cmd.
In the command window type...sfc /scannow..
Feed in your CD when asked, and get the system
files checked.

Ahh cheers :)

I'll give it a swing

does anything else work in the usb ports?

Well yes and no
If I move the usb mouse between the ports there's problems in some cases

I am suspecting the MB for being a bit faulty as I also have experienced
ocassionally performance issues without being able to pinpoint anything
precise

I still a bit suspicious about the hw but I managed to solve the problem
until have time to investigate this
(Heavy workload atm - urghh)

I uninstalled live messenger (installed version was wrong language)
"upgrade" XP and installed live messenger in correct language
Turned out that sfc does not recognize my media center disk 2?
Reinstall/upgrade did the trick
