I guess it's time to upgrade my AMD 2000+ based desktop which is loaded
with a dual-screen AGP video and 1.5 GB of ram in 3 512 pieces - and i
am totally happy with this video and this RAM.

Seems like core 2 duo is the best option right now, but i wonder if
there is ANY MB with AGP and 3 or 4 DDR slots?

I know there is at least one ASUS MB with 2 DDRs and 2 DDR 2s but i am
a bit afraid of this combo thing, and, anyways, this ASUS does not have
an AGP

PS: yes, I am greedy and i am software developer - i need to compile
fast

BTW, is there any nice MB search by features?

only 2 DDR slots in this ASUS, i better take a combo this case :(
I could be wrong here, but if you're thinking of using both sets of slots in
a combo one, that's often not possible. Besides, you would lose the benefit
of the DDR2 memory if you did, coz it would almost certainly run at the
speed of the slower memory.

the best results I have seen are core 2's using ddr2 memory, as a matter of
fact can't remember one not using ddr2.

Which model do you speak of ? If you're considering the Asus P5VDC-MX, it
will not support the Core2 Duo.
newegg search is GREAT, i wonder why there are options to search for 2
or 4 DDR slots but not for 3... they do not produce 3 DDR slots MBs
anymore?

Yes, their search is quite handy.

A half dozen Socket 754 AMD boards have three DDR slots.

If you go dual core anything, you're definitly gonna need a new video
card, AGP is a long extinct interface. pci express offers a whole new
world of bandwidth. And if you can find a board that'll still take
DDR, good on ya, but most likely you'll be forced into the new world of
DDR2. Which actually is not new in any sense of the word. Time to play
catchup!!

You may want to take a look at the Asrock 939 Dual-VSTA.
I'm using DDR400 Ram and 3800+ AMD, 939 with 5700LE AGP video,
but it can also handle PCI-E video cards as well.
I have two of these boards and they work fine. One runs on AGP,
the other on PCI-E.
It's a low cost upgrade, reusing some parts, making a fast computer.

IMO.

** Three years ago, I bought a very expensive MB and now it
has no value. I won't do that again.
