Missing the Christmas season would be crazy. The lost sales would never be
made up no matter what they did to the code because of the theft. Video
cards sales would also suffer if there were a delay.

Millions of people looking for gifts for their friends and relatives would
be snatching up HL2 faster than stores could keep it in stock.

There should be an announcement soon:

Don't know how much you know about this but the delay was announced on a pay
per view news site (it was french). They released a press release which was
picked up by reuters and published, and so was publsihed everywhere else
(without checking).

I know a guy who works for vivendi and he says no one has mentioned a
delay - and as a matter of fact vivendi arent allowed to mention delays
anymore - only valve are authorised to talk about hl2's release date.

So once again, the french are liars.

Either way, this Beta release should give them a kick up the arse.

So is CNN I guess.

"Earlier today, Christophe Ramboz, VU Games president of international
operations, told Reuters the source code theft would result in a four month
delay, pushing Half-Life 2 back to April 2004. "

They are quoting another website, they didn't check it..

All the sites seem to have done that except the BBC, although forgot to take
notice of the response they got

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3172282.stm

"Vivendi Universal Games is only the distributor of the product, which is
produced by the US studio Valve and so it will up to them to make an
announcement," said the head of Vivendi Universal Games, Christophe Ramboz.

"But it is true that the launch has been delayed by a theft of a part of the
game," he told the Les Echos newspaper.
