Maybe I have a DNS problem

Some time ago, I don't know exactly when I noticed that whenever I go to a
web site and type in a url it most often takes a long time to get there. I
am running on DSL at home and have not always had this problem. Example: I
type in www.msn.com and usually have to wait about 11 seconds for it to come
up. Once that has happened I can move around between links at the web site
usually quite quickly. If I go to another web site....the same problem.
Once in a while it is fast enough.

I am running win2000 pro on my machine and when I look at the event log I
see some error messages relating to Event ID 11151,1154,11157. This says
something like the DNS server has timed out. I was thinking maybe I have a
bad DNS server at my ISP. I called them and they say no.

My configuration:
My ISP is SBC.
I have a Linksys router
DNS server 206.13.29.12 and 206.13.28.12 (SBC)
I have put these numbers both in my computer and in my Linksys router.

I am trying to learn about servers and have an evaluation version of Win
2003 in my network however, it is usually turned off. My computer is part
of that domain but usually I don't use the server.

I also have a couple of other computers running 98SE and have the same
problem with those. They too are attached to my linksys router.

It could be. Test that with direct queries using nslookup or dig to the DNS
server IP. Use different queries. If they all take long and your pings or
web browsing is ~fast, then their dns server is probably the issue. Could
also be the first forwarder. Do you have multiple forwarders configured?
