I have a psc1315v. I've been back and forth with HP for days now. They're now
repeating the same solutions, so it's time to move on to experts.

The trend crash a few weeks back caused a re-install of everything. the PSC
worked fine before that.
When I went to reinstall the PSC I saw a small crack on the CD and made an
immediate backup. Called HP, and they sent me another CD. A totally different
version. 4.0. The most current version. I got it up and running with the backup
I'd made on the re-installed OS. New CD 4.0 came in, also had another reason
since the trend crash to re-install the OS and everything else again.

Installed using 4.0. Now whenever I use the imagezone, when I quit it
automatically goes into 'please wait while windows configures the photogallery'
window. This window was also popping up with every boot. That was due to the
HPImageZone fast start in the startups. hpqthb08.exe -s. I just disabled that
since it was neither fast or useful. Extended the boot process to about 5
minutes while it made believe it was actually doing something besides wasting
time.

I've got the same printer, and yes the bundled software that HP provides
is crapola. The same processes could be done with the software included
with XP. The original CD you made a backup of will be of little use
since registry keys were changed I'm sure, with the updated software.
The only glimmer of hope I can give you is to uninstall the .ver 4.0
software & turn off your computer. _Unplug_the_printer._
A free download of Registry 1st. Aid at;
'Registry First Aid' (http://rosecitysoftware.com/Reg1Aid/) will find
orphaned files, unused dll's, & invalid registry items. I have used
this software since .ver 3.0. The first time I ran it, it found 477
items to delete. (it creates a back-up of your registry, and a system
restore point before running) I was on the verge of format &
reinstalling XP so I figured, what the heck, and let the program do
it's thing. I use it on a bi-weekly basis now and am happy with the
results. The program color codes items it feels safe to delete. I am
not advising you to follow this proceedure. But, if it were me, I'd run
Registry 1st. Aid, follow it's advice, then re-install your original
printer drivers as per the set-up documentation.
Your mileage may vary.

It's an option I used regularly with win98. Not this program, there was a win
util that did the same thing. I was told or saw in this group that such a
program runs as a service automatically cleaning up XP Pro. actually I read
that XP pro does everything but make coffee on it's own.

Only trouble with one of these things is if it damages the registry to such an
extent that you can't reboot to restore.

Anything's worth a try. HP support gave up twice yesterday. Final response from
HP on this was 'Call us' so we can put you on ignore till you drop this ticket.
