Using XP fully patched and Avast protection.
I notice that if I have no applications running and then sign out of XP that
a few groups are sent over my modem. I do not know if that is normal but can
think of no reason for it.
My question is: Is that normal for XP?

Perhaps if you explained exactly what you mean by, "... a few groups are
sent over my modem ..." - someone could help you?

Sorry
What I meant was that I see outgoing action on my modem when/as XP closes. I
am not sure if that's normal or if it might be a spy program reporting
home. I regularly run spyware, Trojan, etc. cleaners and find nothing.
I just want to know if hats normal for XP.
Thanks again

I don't have a modem with lights, but I have an external USB wireless
device that blinks a time or two when XP is shutting down.

If you think it might be malware, consider adding these reputable free
tools to your scanning regimen.

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware
detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if desired.

My external zoom modem has LED's to indicate action on either send or
receive side. Perhaps it is simply XP logging off the modem and nothing
going out, I don't know but it is good to hear that you see action as well.
Yes I have adequate protection including those you suggested.
