Hello all,
I've added a second hard drive to my office PC and have tried to install drives. However the MaxBlast 4 disc doesn't have a "ptipbm.dll" file on it. Does someone have any advice or tips on getting it installed properly? Looking in the CMOS, both of my hard drives are listed, but in Windows (XP), I've only the original drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Jim

does the drive show up in disk manager ?

Yepper, it sure does. It has the little exclamation mark on it say that the drivers (ptipbm.dll?) are not installed?

Back up a mo' ... why are you using MaxBlast ... ?

Give me more info on your PC and OS please.

'Tis why I ask about MaxBlast ...

Why is he using MaxBlast?

Oh Dam ... I got gin all over me mouse ... bugger.

dam blast and little fishies ... crap, never drink and drive a PC.

Forgive me but has he partitioned and formatted the drive?

SATA is auto detecting. If the motherboard drivers are installed there shouldnt be a problem!

Problem fixed! Yeahhh! Had to go to Passion Technologies website for the drivers. Maxblast was on the CD that came with the HDD. Once I got the dll file that I needed, I was able to partition and am currently formatting it as I type. Yee haa (Go Seahawks!!)

However, you really should not be using Maxblast unless you have a really OLD PC that don't know what HD you have.

If you used the "driver overlay" you are going to run into problems.

Really could do with your system spec here?

DLL file

Hope you fixed it by now...but if not, and to help others with this issue. Go to the maxtor website and download the zip file for the SATA150. Extract it to a floppy, it DOES contain the ptipbm.dll file.
Why the heck the CD lacks this really frustrates me. So does the lack of legacy power taps on my new 200gb drive. Now I have to find an adaptor to a 15 pin SATA type...I don't know if they even make that....what the heck is Maxtor thinking?
